Owning My Mistakes Changed My Life

Healing began when I stopped blaming everyone else and started looking in the mirror.

26/07/2026

For a long time, I looked back on different chapters of my life and focused on what had been done to me.

The hurt.

The disappointment.

The broken trust.

The things I wished had never happened.

And while those experiences were real, I eventually realised something important.

If I only ever looked at what other people had done, I would never discover what I needed to learn.

That wasn't easy to admit.

Because it's far more comfortable to believe every difficult chapter is someone else's responsibility.

Sometimes it is.

But our healing...

That's our responsibility.

There came a point where I had to stop asking why my life had unfolded the way it had.

Instead, I started asking different questions.

What choices did I make that I'd never make again?

What warning signs did I ignore?

Why did I stay in situations that no longer reflected the life I wanted?

Why did I keep hoping people would become who I needed them to be, instead of accepting who they were?

Those questions were uncomfortable.

But they changed me.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that making mistakes doesn't make you weak.

It makes you human.

I've trusted people I shouldn't have.

I've ignored my intuition.

I've stayed longer than I should have.

I've let fear make decisions that confidence should have made.

I've made choices that, looking back now, I wish I'd made differently.

For a long time, I carried those mistakes as proof that I had failed.

Today, I see them differently.

They weren't failures.

They were lessons.

I don't believe in living with regret anymore.

Regret keeps you looking backwards.

Growth asks you to keep moving forwards.

If I had never made those mistakes, I wouldn't have become the woman I am today.

I wouldn't have learned resilience.

I wouldn't have discovered boundaries.

I wouldn't have understood the value of peace.

And I don't think Unbroken Athletica would exist.

Because every lesson, every setback, and every difficult decision became part of the foundation I stand on today.

One of the most freeing moments in my life came when I realised I didn't need to pretend I'd always made the right decisions.

I could own them.

Learn from them.

And move forward without shame.

There is incredible freedom in accountability.

Not because it erases the past.

But because it gives you the power to create a different future.

Owning my mistakes didn't mean accepting blame for everything that happened.

There are things in life that were never my fault.

There are chapters that caused pain I didn't deserve.

But I refused to let those chapters define the rest of my story.

I could either remain stuck in what happened...

Or I could decide what happened next.

That choice changed everything.

Today, I don't strive to be perfect.

I strive to keep learning.

To become a little wiser.

A little stronger.

A little kinder.

A little more honest with myself than I was yesterday.

Because that's what growth really looks like.

Not perfection.

Progress.

If you're carrying mistakes that still weigh heavily on your heart, I hope you know this.

You are allowed to outgrow the person you once were.

You are allowed to forgive yourself for what you didn't know then.

And you are allowed to build a future that isn't defined by your worst decisions.

We all have chapters we'd rewrite if we could.

But perhaps those chapters are the very reason we're able to write a better ending.

Because healing isn't about pretending you've never made mistakes.

It's about having the courage to learn from them.

The woman I am today wasn't built despite my mistakes.

She was built because I chose to grow through them.
