The Day I Decided to Rebuild My Life
There wasn't a dramatic moment.
No lightbulb moment.
No day where everything suddenly made sense.
The truth is, rebuilding my life started with a decision.
A decision made when I was exhausted, heartbroken, and struggling to see what the future could possibly look like.
By that point, life had taken me to places I never imagined I would be. I had experienced domestic violence, been divorced twice, A single mum to now adult chidlren, lost my mum, suffered health setbacks, and lost everything I had worked so hard to build.
I felt lost.
I felt defeated.
I felt like I was standing in the middle of the ruins of a life I no longer recognised.
For a long time, I focused on what I had lost.
The life I thought I would have.
The plans that didn't work out.
The people I missed.
The version of myself I felt had disappeared somewhere along the way.
And then one day, something shifted.
Not because my circumstances changed.
Not because life suddenly became easier.
But because I realised I had a choice.
I could continue looking at everything that had been taken from me.
Or I could start focusing on what I still had.
I still had a future.
I still had dreams.
I still had a voice.
And most importantly, I still had myself.
That day, I made a promise.
I would stop waiting for someone else to save me.
I would stop waiting for the perfect time.
I would stop believing that my best years were behind me.
I would rebuild.
One step at a time.
Not perfectly.
Not quickly.
But consistently.
Some days that looked like getting out of bed.
Some days it looked like going for a walk.
Some days it looked like making difficult decisions.
Some days it looked like simply refusing to give up.
What I've learned is that rebuilding isn't one big moment.
It's thousands of small moments.
Small choices.
Small acts of courage.
Small steps forward when nobody else can see the progress you're making.
Looking back now, I realise that rebuilding my life wasn't about becoming a different person.
It was about finding my way back to myself.
That journey is the reason Unbroken Athletica exists.
Because I know what it feels like to lose your confidence.
I know what it feels like to question your worth.
I know what it feels like to wonder if you'll ever feel strong again.
And I know what it feels like to slowly rebuild.
If you're reading this and you're standing at the beginning of your own rebuilding journey, I want you to know something:
You don't need all the answers today.
You don't need to know exactly how everything will work out.
You only need to take the next step.
Then the next one.
And then the one after that.
Because rebuilding doesn't happen overnight.
But one day you'll look back and realise how far you've come.
The day I decided to rebuild my life wasn't the day everything changed.
It was the day I decided that I would.
And sometimes, that's where every new beginning starts.
